Blackberry Curve 9300 – The Experience

Will.i.am – I Love What I Do (Blackberry ads)
This is the sample video I saw in the Blackberry Curve 9300. I couldn’t resist but to search this on Youtube to share it with all of you. Always LOVE WHAT YOU DO. :) . :)

So OK! after the awesome video, it’s time for an Android freak to tell you all the EXPERIENCE of using a Blackberry.

Blackberry Curve 9300

The Blackberry Curve 9300 that I having is running OS5 out of the box. There’s been an announcement from RIM said that the BB Curve 9300 is upgradeable to the latest OS6 and it’s already available at some countries. But too bad, there’s not system updates available officially from DiGi yet. Can’t give you a special review of the OS6. :(

So, why Blackberry? many people might ask.

I can’t tell you exactly why, but there’s some features in this phone that grab my attention within this few days of use. :)

Homescreen for Blackberry Curve 9300 - OS5 - on EDGE

The BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS).
A service by Telco that gives BlackBerry users access to emails and all kind of services without connecting through a BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Instant access to BlackBerry Messenger(BBM), Facebook, twitter, emails , Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, and more.

BlackBerry Messenger(BBM) - the secret community of the BlackBerries.

Excellent data speed even in EDGE connection(BIS).
The BlackBerry Curve 9300 comes with 3G connection. But browsing, checking emails, update facebook status, with just EDGE connection is fast enough! something really make a difference compare to other smartphones where usually EDGE is awful. It’s a good feature when you travel around where there’s no HSDPA(3G) connections. This is made possible by the advance compression technology on all incoming and outgoing data by the BIS service.

Very decent battery life
There’s no serious test data on this as I think this is quite subjective to everybody. On light usage, it last me more then a day in EDGE connection and around a day at 3G.

Facebook notifications, twitter, smses, and BBM msg all in one place.

Social network integrated into one place at Message
Checking facebook and twitter doesn’t need you to go to a different star or universe. All the notifications are gather together into one single interface and make you fast check easier and faster.

hem… I think the article when a lil bit too long, let’s call it a break shell we? :D

Me, the Android freak, will be giving you a review of the Blackberry Curve 9300. :)

Box art(???) of the Blackberry Curve 9300

Thats the BLACK BOX for Blackberry Curve 9300.

RESERVED – The Unboxing Video is COMING UP SOON!

The box comes with the phone itself, micro USB cables for data, 3 types of adapter head and adapter, a headphone, a Blackberry tools CD, and manual.

Blackberry Curve, an entry-level smartphone, from Research in Motion (RIM).

The device feels really light, much lighter then I expected (104 grams). It fits my hand really well. 109mm(H) x 60mm(W) x 13.9mm(D). The body is made mostly out of plastics with some Chrome finish in front(Doesn’t feel cheap but just nice). Fitted with 320×240 pixel color TFT LCD display, a TrackPad to navigate around, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the Blackberry trademarked QWERTY keyboard!

Rubber finish. Doesn't slip away from your hand easily. ;)

That where you see the big Blackberry logo. The small camera at top left, made “dived in” to avoid scratches on the lens. The sides and back are rubber finish, phone doesn’t slip away easily while you’re holding it. ;)

A closer look at the Blackberry QWERTY keyboard.

Nowadays, everybody is having a buzz over full touchscreen device. But for me, nothing beats physical keyboards. It’s just… faster, shorter “get-use-to” time and feels much better with the “click” then just touching on a flat surface.

The space between the keys are tight, and positioned in square grid, might need some time to get use to… The keys are a lil bit too small for my fingers too(ya, I have big fingers). I’m always typing with finger nails… not too sure if this will scratch out the key’s print after some usage.

Volume + - buttons, and a dedicated camera button.

The right side comes with a set of Volume buttons, both + and -. A dedicated Camera button for quick snaps.

3.5mm stereo headset jack, micro USB port, and a dedicated button for Voice Command.

Don’t you love STANDARD? the STANDARD 3.5mm stereo jack fits almost every headphones you can find out there. So does the STANDARD micro USB port for Data transfer and charging.

and YAY! the VOICE COMMAND button which you can do those JAMES BOND things like “Call 016-789**23”, “Message Jane I’ll be late for the meeting”, “Navigate to Taiwan” and “Self destruct in 10 second”. Try them. it WORKS! ;)

The Media keys PLAY, BACK, FORWARD. and the speaker location.

The Speaker is located at the top, less chance of speaker blocked. With 3 media keys for PLAY, BACK and FORWARD. The PLAY button serve as a unlock button too.

The phone feels light and fit just right on my hand. For the keyboard, I believe there are still rooms for improvement on the keyboard, prefer to have the 1st and 3rd row wider and less align with the 2nd row. Rubber finish at the back feels great.
